Bhavani Fonseka is a senior researcher and lawyer with the Centre for Policy Alternatives in Sri Lanka. Presently her work focuses on transitional justice issues in post-war Sri Lanka. She is also the editor of the book Transitional Justice in Sri Lanka: Moving Beyond Promises, published in 2017. She has worked in the areas of human rights, peacebuilding, reconciliation and the rule of law and appeared as counsel in several leading cases in the Supreme Court in Sri Lanka. She is also a member of the Policy Committee, Human Rights Watch. She was an adviser to the Consultation Taskforce appointed by the Government of Sri Lanka and a member to formulate the National Human Rights Action Plan for Sri Lanka. She was a Mason Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School and an Eisenhower Fellow. Bhavani has a bachelor's degree in law from the University of Bristol, UK, a master's degree in law from Denver University, USA, and a master's degree in public administration from Harvard University, USA.
