Betti-Sue Hertz is director and chief curator at Wallach Art Gallery, Columbia University's premier exhibition space. Serving as both a laboratory and a forum, the gallery advances historical, critical, and creative engagement with the visual arts. Betti-Sue's numerous exhibitions have focused on the liberatory potential of critical visual culture and transnational exchange. She was formerly director of visual arts, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, San Francisco, curator, San Diego Museum of Art, and director, Longwood Arts Project, South Bronx, NY. Betti-Sue was public arts consultant for TLS Landscape Architecture for major projects in Suzhou and Shenzhen, and curator in residence at HOW Art Museum, Shanghai. She has taught social art history at Stanford University, San Francisco Art Institute, and UC Berkeley. Betti-Sue was an inaugural member of Stanford Art Institute's Creative Cities Working Group and a founding member of RepoHistory. She holds an M.Phil., CUNY Graduate Center, with a focus on contemporary art and architectural theory, an MFA, Hunter College, and a BA, Goddard College.
