Amrit Singh

Amrit Singh is Professor of Practice and the founding director of NYU Law's Rule of Law Lab, which studies and deploys legal tools to defend democracy and the rule of law worldwide. A human rights lawyer and expert on democracy and the rule of law, she has worked on a broad range of issues in the United States and globally. Prior to her academic career, Amrit served as a human rights litigator at the Open Society Justice Initiative and at the American Civil Liberties Union. She has previously taught at Stanford Law School and Yale Law School. She has testified before Congress and been a frequent commentator in the United States and international press. She is co-author of Administration of Torture, a book documenting the Bush administration's post-9/11 torture policies. She is a graduate of Yale Law School, Oxford University, and Cambridge University.
