Abel Escribà-Folch

Abel Escribà-Folch is associate professor of political science at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona), Senior Research Associate at the Barcelona Institute for International Studies (IBEI), and Dean of the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences. His research examines authoritarian politics, political violence, repression, civil-military relations, and the personalization of power, with a particular focus on how domestic institutions and international actors shape regime stability and democratic erosion. He has also studied the effects of international sanctions, foreign aid, migration, and external pressure on authoritarian regimes. His work has appeared in leading journals including the American Journal of Political Science, Journal of Politics, British Journal of Political Science, Comparative Political Studies, and International Organization. He is the co-author of “Foreign Pressure and the Politics of Autocratic Survival” (Oxford University Press) and “Migration and Democracy” (Princeton University Press), and is currently leading several projects on personalist rule, coups, and political violence.
