Educator Roles for New Approaches to Learning: Workshop 2
This interactive workshop was conceived during the Salzburg Global program on the Future of Teaching. It has been co-designed with KnowledgeWorks, Learning Planet Institute, and Rethinking Assessment and will engage participants in exploring educator roles for new approaches to learning in ecosystems of the future.
It will invite participants to surface aspirations for the future of learning and to consider how new approaches could help realize them. It will also invite participants to imagine what new educator roles could help make those approaches effective.

About
Purpose
- Help educators and education decisionmakers, changemakers and influencers explore possibilities for teaching and education staffing
- Imagine how new educator roles could help them realize their desired approaches to teaching and learning.
- Work together to share insights from those explorations more broadly.
Approach
This interactive workshop will guide participants through a shared exploration of the future of education and emerging educator roles.
The session begins with a welcome, orientation, and participant introductions, followed by a futures thinking activity introducing key drivers of change and inviting reflection on individual aspirations for education in 2044.
Participants will then explore new approaches to learning and consider inspiring examples of future educator roles, drawing on KnowledgeWorks’ “Envisioning Educator Roles for Transformation.”
In small breakout groups, participants will co-design educator roles aligned with their aspirations using a guided activity and collaborative tools.
The session concludes with a whole-group discussion to exchange insights, reflect on implications for education systems, and issue a call to action to continue the conversation and share ideas widely.
