Zarema Bariieva

Project manager, Crimean Tatar Resource Center
Zarema Bariieva is a human rights activist and a representative of the indigenous Crimean Tatar people. She is an activist of the International Movement for the De-occupation of Crimea, which aims to liberate Crimea and restore the territorial integrity of Ukraine using non-violent methods of struggle. In 2015 because of persecution in Russia-occupied Crimea, Zarema fled the peninsula to Kyiv, where together with other activists, she founded the ''Crimean Tatar Resource Center'', a non-profit that monitors and reports on human rights abuses committed against Crimean Tatars by the Russian regime. The Center advocates for the peninsula's reunification with Ukraine, and is now providing help to Crimean Tatar refugees escaping the current war. Zarema is the ?enter's project manager and is the co-author of several reports and short films about Russia's ongoing persecution of the Crimean Tatars. She has presented the Center's work and findings to the UN, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, and the Council of Europe.
