Yusaku Kawashima is a senior innovation officer at the World Bank Group in Washington, D.C., the United States. His main professional focus is the implementation of emerging technologies to foster the economic development of developing countries. Yusaku has worked on projects including conducting policy recommendation for national governments with regards to how to implement artificial intelligence to maximize the benefit and minimize the risk, developing a future-oriented policy-making toolkit to adequately adapt emerging technologies for the use by policymakers within the World Bank, creating a national strategy to harness a data-driven economy by planning the ecosystem surrounding the social use of private data. Before joining the World Bank, Yusaku served as a deputy director at the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry of Japan, where he took charge of innovative policy and social welfare maximization. He received a Masters of International Economics and Finance from Johns Hopkins University and a master's degree in public administration from Harvard University.
