Social Worker/Founder, Freedom Restoration Project, Thailand
Sia Watcharapon Kukaewkasem founded Freedom Restoration Project to help break the destructive cycles of domestic violence and other social problems through education programs and community empowerment. She comes from the Akha ethnic group in Thailand. She is an advocate, social worker, and survivor of domestic violence, but most people see her as the "big sister and a friend" who really listens and cares. She began volunteer work at the tsunami relief camp in southern Thailand in 2005. In 2007, she moved to the Thai/Myanmar border town of Maesot. She co-founded a non-profit organization, Compasio Relief, and Development, to offer shelter services for women and children who had been abused, trafficked, or in at-risk situations. When Sia is not busy creating smiles or rubbing Thanaka on her face with the little ones, you can find her playing football, jogging the hills of Maesot, practicing her mean Muay Thai kicks, and maybe cooking up an extravagant meal. Sia has a Master's Degree in Clinical Social work from Azusa Pacific University (APU).
