Urfan Khaliq is a reader in public international and EU laws at Cardiff University in the United Kingdom. Prior to joining Cardiff University in 1996, he was a research assistant to Professor Christine Chinkin at the Law Faculty of Southampton University. He is the author of a number of number of articles in leading law journals, chapters in edited collections as well as a monograph published by Cambridge University Press entitled Ethical Foreign Policies of the European Union ,which was has been awarded a number of prestigious prizes the quality of its scholarship. Dr. Khaliq has taught or given conference papers in a number of countries around the world and has been a visiting research scholar at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. His research and teaching interests encompass EU law, public international law, international human rights law, foreign policy and aspects of Islamic law. He is an advocate of the Punjab High Court, Pakistan, and is part of a project seeking to provide pro bono legal advice to street children in conflict with the law as well as helping with the training in international human rights law of the Pakistani judiciary and legal profession. Dr. Khaliq is also currently a member of the Research Consultants Panel at Matrix Chambers, Gray's Inn, London and guest lecturer in public law at the Université de Picardie- Jules Verne, Amiens.
