Themba Masuku is director of the Geneva Liaison Office of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, whose role is to take the lead on agriculture, forestry, fisheries and rural development and to work to alleviate poverty and hunger by promoting agricultural development, improved nutrition and food security. Prior to his current position, Mr. Masuku served in a variety of government posts in Swaziland, including minister for the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives Mbabane, the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development, and the Ministry of Finance. He also served as Governor of the International Monetary Fund for Swaziland at the World Bank meetings, and as president-in-office of the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States Council of Ministers. His interests range from the importance of recognizing rural women and their contribution to household food security to realizing the goal of the fundamental right of everyone to freedom from hunger. Mr. Masuku holds a B.S. in agronomy and an M.S. in agricultural mechanization from the University of Missouri-Columbia, United States.
