Ted Smith is the director of people and places at Wellcome. He joined the organization at the beginning of 2015. Ted is responsible for the people who work at Wellcome (approximately 750), those at the Wellcome Fund (approximately 15,000) and the places and facilities it owns. Prior to joining Wellcome, Ted worked as group human resources director of the Medical Research Council. He also served at Glaxo Group Research, Glaxo Wellcome and GSK (where his last role was as vice president of human resources), at two market research companies, and at Vernalis, a Cambridge-based biotech company. Ted has also held trustee roles at two charities, Wysing Arts and Herts Careers Service. He loves live music, photography and sport. He holds a B.Sc. in environmental science from De Montfort University.
