Suresh Kumar is the technical advisor of the Institute of Palliative Medicine in Calicut, India, which is also the World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Community Participation in Palliative Care and Long Term Care. He has been the project coordinator for a Palliative Care Project, run by the National Rural Health Mission (Kerala) to facilitate the incorporation of palliative care at the primary health care level, and has been part of the team which established the Neighborhood Network in Palliative Care, a massive community based palliative care network in Kerala. Suresh worked as a palliative care physician in the UK and as visiting research Fellow at the University of Bath. He is an Ashoka Global Fellow, whose interests include palliative care in low and middle income countries. He received his post graduate training in anesthesia, palliative medicine and sociology, after graduating from the Government Medical College in Calicut.
