Shuhei Yoshimura

Shuhei Yoshimura is a deputy director at the Japan Foundation, in Tokyo, a Japanese public entity specialized in public diplomacy. Currently he directs the "Care" project to explore how societies and communities work and people live by focusing on local care practices. The project is intended to develop insights from perspectives of Asia, to complement the current western academic discourse on care. He also manages grant programs in his team and organizes talk events and symposia that transcend the boarders of countries, disciplines, and expertise. In the past, he featured prominent public intellectuals such as Michael Sandel, Yuval Noah Harari, Oliver Burkeman, Gilian Tett for dialogues with the Japanese speakers. Formerly as a reporter in one of the nationwide newspapers in Japan, Shuhei was engaged in crime, disaster, and investigative report in social topics, and served as a correspondent in Hiroshima to deal with international politics over nuclear disarmament and the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).
