Sarah Thomas is Bodley's Librarian and is in charge of library services at the University of Oxford. She previously served as university librarian at Cornell University from 1996 until 2007. Dr. Thomas began her career at Harvard University's Widener Library and has since worked at Johns Hopkins University, the Research Libraries Group, Stanford, California, the National Agricultural Library, and the Library of Congress. She publishes and presents frequently on the future of libraries and on the importance of collaboration and outreach by libraries and other cultural institutions. Dr. Thomas serves as a board member of Research Libraries UK and the Princeton University Press European Advisory Board, is on the Planning and Resource Allocation Committee of the University of Oxford, and a life member of the American Library Association. In 2010 she was elected a member of Oxford's University Council, the executive policy-forming body of the university. Sarah Thomas is a graduate of Smith College, and holds an MS in Library Science from Simmons College, and a Ph.D. in German literature from the Johns Hopkins University.
