Sarah Gordon

Sarah Gordon is a professor of law and history at the University of Pennsylvania Law School in Philadelphia. A widely recognized scholar on the role of religion in American public life and the separation of church and state, Dr. Gordon researches and teaches extensively on the history of American constitutional history, religion, westward expansion, and property. Recently, she has been giving talks around the United States on her book, The Mormon Question: Polygamy and Constitutional Conflict in Nineteenth-Century America (2002); and is working on a new book about religion and litigation in the twentieth century, entitled The Spirit of the Law. She is the recipient of numerous prizes and fellowships and spent the 2004-05 academic year at University College London. Dr. Gordon is on the advisory board of the National Constitution Center, the Library Company of Philadelphia, the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, and Vassar College. Dr Gordon holds a Ph.D. from Princeton University, a J.D. from Yale Law School, and an M.A.R. in ethics from Yale Divinity School.
