Russell Riley is an associate professor and chair of the Miller Center's Presidential Oral History Program at the University of Virginia. He previously was a program director with the Salzburg Global Seminar. He helped found Penn's Washington Semester Program and was its resident director and a lecturer in American politics for four years. He also taught at Penn's main campus in Philadelphia and at Georgetown University. He is the author of The Presidency and the Politics of Racial Inequality: Nation Keeping from 1831-1965, and is editor of books on White House-congressional relations, presidential speechwriting, and the White House domestic policy office. Dr. Riley studied at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government and received a Ph.D. from the University of Virginia.
