Brig Gen (Ret) Ronald S. Mangum currently serves as a professor of national security studies in the Graduate Program of the School of Global Studies at American Military University. General Mangum is an accomplished senior leader with over 35 years of combined civilian and military experience in leadership positions. He is expert in international relations, having advised national governments on systemic improvements in national strategic development, military and justice systems including counter-terrorism and infrastructure protection. He is accustomed to developing, planning and executing novel solutions to tough issues that result in substantial and sustainable performance gains and then training personnel for complex security, humanitarian, social, and political missions in joint, Inter-agency, and multinational environments. He has authored books, chapters and articles on military, legal and political topics, and he makes speaking presentations before international audiences. He ended his military career as theater component special operations commanding general in the Republic of Korea and in his civilian legal career he founded and managed a nationally recognized US law firm, representing business, health care and non-profit clients before federal and state courts and administrative agencies in complex litigation. He has counseled business and non-profit clients on business development, financing and fundraising; he served as a hospital president, and was general counsel to Kiwanis International and Zonta International. He earned a J.D. and B.A. from Northwestern University and an M.A. in diplomacy from Norwich University.
