Pierre Schoonraad is the Head of Research and Development at the South African Centre for Public Service Innovation (CPSI). He previously served in the Department of Public Service and Administration as director research. Mr. Schoonraad regularly participates in international engagements on Public Sector Innovation including being part of the team that coordinates the African Union's All Africa Public Sector Innovation Awards (AAPSIA) programme. He also participated in the activities of the Ad Hoc Expert Group that advised the United Nations on the Transfer and Adaptation of innovative practices for improved public service delivery in least developed countries (LDCs). He serves as an adjudicator of provincial ICT Innovation Competition that encourages young entrepreneurs to develop solutions for urban challenges. Before joining the Public Service in 2004, Mr. Schoonraad spent more than a decade within the not-for-profit sector conducting action research in urban informal settlements focussed on finding innovative solutions for poverty related challenges. He holds a BA and a BD degree from the University of Pretoria.
