Philip Varghese is an assistant professor of political science and international relations at Christ University in Bengaluru, India. From 2022 to 2024, he was a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) postdoctoral fellow at Akita International University and the United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS). His research interests include tourism and development politics, biodiversity, indigenous communities, and sustainability. He holds a bachelor's degree in political science from St. Stephen's College, Delhi, India and a master's degree in political science from Madras Christian College, Chennai, India. He earned a M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees in political science from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in Delhi, India in 2017.
