Paz Consuelo Marquez-Padilla is a researcher at Centro de Investigaciones sobre America del Norte based in Mexico. With 39 years of experience in research and teaching, she is a member of the National System of Researchers in Mexico. She has served as a tutor, directs thesis and teaches classes at the Graduate School of Political and Social Sciences, UNAM. She was co-founder of CISAN, director of CISAN, director of the Voices of Mexico Magazine and editor-in-chief of the North America Academic Magazine. Awarded with the Recognition "Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz", she also received the Medal of Academic Merit by the Autonomous Association of Academic Personnel of the UNAM. Her lines of research are: American political thought; neo-conservatism; international justice; federalism and democracy and populism. She has contributed to various articles, and book chapters including one on democracy and federalism in a time of crisis: Covid19 and the assassination of George Floyd and has coordinated multiple books. Her books of authorship are: International Justice: Ideas and Reflections (2014) Threatened Democracy: Why do populisms arise?(2020). She holds a PhD in political science with a specialty in international relations, a master's degree in sociology from Tulane University and in political science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
