Olena Prokopenko

Head of the board, Institute of Public Diplomacy, Ukraine
Olena has been specialising in project management and strategic communications since 2014, when she began active public activities in Ukraine and abroad. In 2017, she founded a charity fund to support the protection of the rights of Ukrainian children living in the military conflict zone of South- Eastern Ukraine. During her chairmanship of the foundation, she gained experience in partnering with the UN within its food program, helping in the territories of Luhansk region controlled by Ukraine in 2017. She gained an understanding of the humanitarian needs of IDPs and skills in working with children. In the future, this experience inspired her to organize other targeted humanitarian missions to support children who continued to live in the South-East of Ukraine after 2014. During their implementation, she gained experience in communicating with local authorities, Ukrainian NGOs and international organisations. In addition, she has strengthened public influence in the information field of Europe, the Middle East and North America through her own project "Children in War". Her ability to interact with people allowed her to conduct a project in 28 countries and enlist the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. As a result, her work has drawn the attention of the world community to the problems of children's rights violations in Ukraine. Her participation in the Salzburg Global Seminar's program last year gave her a great impetus to cooperate between Ukrainian and foreign organisation for the implementation of public diplomacy and humanitarian projects for the benefit of Ukraine. Olena is a Fellow of Salzburg Global Seminar.
