Co founder and President, Yes, Deaf Can!, Japan
Meri Hirose is a resident of Tokyo, Japan and a global citizen. She has worked in the United States, Dominican Republic, and Brazil. Hirose is fluent in Japanese, English, Spanish, and Portuguese, as well as Japanese, American, and Dominican Republic Sign language, and International Signs. She currently coordinates sign language programs and refers interpreters to business organizations in Tokyo, Japan. Hirose has extensive experience in international work. She has worked on teams with both Deaf and hearing members in the development and implementation of Deaf services and programs. In 2013, JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) sent Hirose to the Patronato Benefico Oriental in the Dominican Republic to work with teachers of the Deaf. She helped develop educational resources for Deaf students. By 2016, Hirose helped establish the Institute Technical Patronato Benefico Oriental, a skill training program for Deaf adults. She also co-founded the Yes, Deaf Can, an NPO (Non-Profit Organization) with a systematic microcredit fund program that supports Deaf entrepreneurs with promising business proposals in developing countries.
