Dr. Mauri?cio Garcia is the vice president of planning and academics of DeVry Brazil, a subsidiary of DeVry Inc., a US publicly traded education group, with over 120,000 students worldwide. DeVry Inc. is focused primarily on higher education, although operates in other levels. In Brazil, DeVry has 22,000 students in 3 different cities, including programs in areas such as engineering, healthcare, business, communication and law.
Dr. Garcia has been working for DeVry Brazil since 2006 and has almost 30 years of educational experience, focused on higher education. Prior to joining DeVry, Dr. Garcia was vice president of Universidade Anhembi Morumbi, a leading higher education institution of São Paulo (the biggest city of Brazil), with 25,000 students. Prior to that, Dr. Garcia accumulated a comprehensive experience in higher education in Brazil, working in various different institutions since 1983. This experience started as professor at Universidade de São Paulo (USP), the most prestigious institution in the country. During those years, Dr. Garcia had a strong research production, with more than 200 scientific papers, and he has occupied different academic positions, as program dean and research director.
Dr. Garcia has been also participating in scientific, professional and governmental associations and committees. Currently, he is the chairman of the academic board of the Brazilian Private Higher Education Forum.
Dr. Garcia graduated from University of São Paulo in 1983 in Veterinary Medicine and also earned an MSc (1989) and a PhD (1992) degree from USP, both in Veterinary Pathology. In 2008, Dr. Garcia earned an MBA degree from Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV), one of the main business schools in Brazil.
