Martin  VUKOVICH  served  as  Austria’s  ambassador  to  the  Russian  Federation  from  2003  to  2009.  His  diplomatic  career  began  in  1969  with his first posting to Moscow as press and political officer and since  then  he  has  served  in  the  Austrian  Foreign  Ministry  in  positions  including  first  secretary  of  the  Austrian  embassy  in  Copenhagen,  Deputy Head of  the Department  for European Economic  Integration,  Minister Counselor at the Austrian Embassy in Washington DC, Deputy  Chief  of  Mission  in  Moscow,  and  Austrian  ambassador  to  Japan.  Ambassador  Vukovich  was  the  director  for  International  Security  Affairs  and  deputy  political  director  at  the Austrian  Foreign Ministry,  and was a member of the Austrian National Security Council from 2001  to  2003.  Since  his  retirement  in  2009,  he  remains  active  in  the  think  tank  “Dialog-Europe-Russia”.  Ambassador  Vukovich  holds  a  Ph.D.  in  law from the University of Vienna.
