Louis Mazzari has taught as an adjunct professor of US and European history at the City University of New York, LaGuardia Community College for the past five years. For the previous decade, he was an assistant professor of history and literature at Bogazici University in Istanbul. He has published Southern Modernist, a biography of depression-era, civil rights activist Arthur Raper (LSU Press) and wrote a new introduction to Raper's reissued Preface to Peasantry for the University of South Carolina Press, Southern Classics Series. Recently, he has published "Common Sense on the Lower East Side" in Remembering and Remaking Thomas Paine (Taylor & Francis), "Gunnar Myrdal in the U.S. South," in The U.S. South and Europe (University of Kentucky Press). In the 2010s, he wrote for and edited American-Turkish Encounters: Politics and Culture, 1830-1989 and The Turkish-American Conundrum: Immigrants and Expatriates between Politics and Culture. Previously, Mazzari contributed to the Encyclopedia of New England (Yale University Press), and he was managing editor of Identities: Global Studies in Culture and Power and editorial coordinator of the Harvard Educational Review.
