Lawrence Eagleburger

Lawrence Eagleburger served in many capacities in the U.S. government, most notably as U.S. secretary of state under President Bush. He is currently the senior foreign policy advisor for the law firm of Baker, Donelson, Bearman, and Caldwell, as well as chairman of the International Commission on Holocaust Era Insurance Claims. During his career with the U.S. State Department, Mr. Eagleburger held numerous distinguished posts. He was a member of the National Security Council; special assistant to under secretary of state Nicholas Katzenbach; executive assistant to Henry Kissinger at the White House; political advisor and chief of the political section of the U.S. Mission to NATO in Brussels; deputy assistant secretary of defense; deputy assistant to President Nixon for national security affairs; executive assistant to the secretary of state; ambassador to Yugoslavia; and assistant secretary of state for European affairs. Among other distinctions, Mr. Eagleburger has been awarded the Presidential Citizens Medal by President Bush, the Department of State’s Distinguished Service Award, and the Wilbur J. Carr Award for more than twenty-five years of service. In 1994, he received an honorary knighthood from Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. Mr. Eagleburger earned undergraduate and master’s degrees from the University of Wisconsin.
