Lamtiar Simorangkir, a filmmaker, will distribute Where is Home?, a documentary that explores the post-prison lives of children who were born and raised in prison alongside their incarcerated mothers—through international film festivals. The film had its world premiere at an Academy Award-qualifying festival and was nominated for Best International Short Documentary. She will also work on a groundbreaking project that will allow children of incarcerated mothers to visit their parents in prison, with the goal of healing broken bonds—an issue that remains deeply overlooked in Indonesia. Lamtiar Simorangkir is an award-winning self-taught filmmaker and activist. Her films spotlight critical social issues, especially women’s and children’s rights and tolerance in Indonesia. She founded Lam Horas Film, an independent production house, and Rumah Lam Horas, a foundation that conducts impact campaigns alongside the documentary films. Her motto in making films are “ One story at a time, one change at a time” and “ Small but big impact”. Her powerful documentary Invisible Hopes uncovers the untold story about the plight of pregnant inmates and children who are born and raised behind prison bars in Indonesia. She has been invited to many international conferences and has served as a guest lecturer and speaker at universities, where she speaks about issues related to prisons and Indonesia’s criminal justice system , access to justice, especially concerning women and children in prison. She holds a BA in Economics from Riau University with a focus on Economic and Development Studies.
