Lael Brainard

Lael Brainard is a distinguished fellow at the Georgetown University Psaros Center for Financial Markets and Policy. Lael previously served as director of the National Economic Council, vice chair and governor of the Federal Reserve Board, undersecretary of the Treasury, and G-7 Sherpa. Lael also served as chair of the Financial Stability Board (FSB) Standing Committee on Assessing Vulnerabilities and of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Working Party 3. Lael has been involved in United States monetary, fiscal, and trade policymaking, as well as the resolution of several financial crises. Lael was assistant and associate professor of applied economics at MIT Sloan School of Management. Lael founded the Brookings Global Economy and Development program and started her career at McKinsey and Company. Lael received a Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and was awarded a National Science Foundation Fellowship. She is a Fellow of Salzburg Global.
