Krzysztof Czyzewski

Krzystof Czyzewski is the founder and president of the Borderland Foundation and the Borderland of Arts, Cultures and Nations Center in Sijny, Poland, which he founded in 1989. In 1983, during the period of martial law in Poland, Mr. Czyzewski established the underground periodical Czas Kultury (Time of Culture) and later became editor-in-chief of the Krasnogruda magazine, a publication devoted to Central and Eastern European cultures, art, and literature. He was a co-creator of the Gardzienice Theater, where he worked from 1977 to 1983; he is a member of the Board for Culture at the Open Society Institute in Budapest; a member of the Remarque Forum on politics and culture in Europe and North America at the Remarque Institute of New York University; and a member of the Guliver Circle in Amsterdam. A poet, essayist, culture animator, and editor, he is also a graduate in Polish literature from Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan. Mr. Czyzewski served on the faculty of Salzburg Seminar Session 410, Capitalizing on Our Differences: Leadership Across Cultural Boundaries and Geographic Borders in a Global Society, 2003.
