Kiyoshi Kurokawa

Professor at the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies, Science Advisor to the Cabinet of Japan and Chairman of the Fukushima Nuclear Accident Independent Commission.
Kiyoshi Kurokawa is chairman of the Health Global Policy Institute (HGPI) as well as chair and co-Founder of IMPACT Japan. He is also the representative director and chair of the Global Health Innovative Technology Fund since 2013 and distinguished research affiliate, the MIT Media Lab since 2011. Additionally, Dr. Kurokawa is adjunct senior research scientist at the Earth Institute, Columbia University, U.S.A. as well as academic fellow at the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS). Recently he chaired the Fukushima Nuclear Accident Independent Investigation Commission by the National Diet of Japan. Dr. Kurokawa received the AAAS Scientific Freedom and Responsibility Award (2012) and was included in the list of the "100 Top Global Thinkers 2012" by Foreign Policy Magazine. He is a graduate of the University of Tokyo's School of Medicine and trained in internal medicine and nephrology in US. Later he became professor of Medicine at the UCLA School of Medicine, California, and chair of the Department of Medicine (I) at the University of Tokyo.
