Karabi Acharya, ScD directs the Global Ideas for US Solutions portfolio at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. This portfolio learns from how other countries are achieving health and well-being for all members of the society and adapts them to improve health and well-being in the United States. She is a public health anthropologist and has worked on international health and development issues for over 20 years across 10 countries. Previously, Acharya was global director for Ashoka, where she led Ashoka's efforts to document the system changes that Ashoka Fellows achieve. Prior to Ashoka, she worked with the Academy for Educational Development to bring community voices and perspectives into policy and program design. Karabi holds a Doctor of Science from Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health and was on the faculty there. She is a Donella Meadows Leadership Fellow. She is also the founder of Conquering Gyrate Atrophy which supports research for a cure for an inherited retinal disease. She enjoys crossing boundaries - both conceptual and geographic - and practices "Blue Marble Thinking" daily.
