Kamran Hashemi

Kamran Hashemi has been working as a career diplomat for the Iranian Foreign Ministry since 1987 and has served in different positions in Iran, Greece, and Germany. In August 2010 he was appointed to director of the Non Aligned Movement Centre for Human Rights and Cultural Diversity in Tehran. Since 2007, he has been teaching human rights law and humanitarian law at the School of International Relations (SIR) in Tehran and at other Iranian universities. His doctoral thesis "Religious Legal Traditions, International Human Rights Law, and Muslim States," which was published in August 2007 in the form of a monograph by Martinus Nijhof, undertakes a comparative study of the legislation and legal practices in Muslim states, in order to elaborate the implications these practices on human rights. Furthermore, he has published several articles on Muslims and human rights, including a paper on religious minorities and on the Convention on the Rights of the Child. His latest article in English entitled "Muslim Stats, Regional Human Rights Systems, and Organization of Islamic Conference," was published in the German Yearbook of International Law in February 2010. He holds a Ph.D. in law from the Irish Centre for Human Rights, National University of Ireland, Galway.
