Jukka VESALA is director general micro-prudential supervision III at the Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM), which will be responsible for the indirect supervision of over 5,900 credit institutions in close liaison with the National Competent Authorities (NCAs). In parallel, Dr. Vesala is the project manager at the ECB for the Comprehensive Assessment. Dr. Vesala’s previous career path includes 10 years as deputy director general at the Finnish Financial Supervisory Authority. He has been a member of the board of the European Banking Authority, an advisory member of the Audit Committee of the European Investment Bank, and principal expert in the financial stability division of the ECB. Dr. Vesala earned a Ph.D. in economics from Helsinki School of Economics.
