Dean, College of Public Service & Community Solutions, Arizona State University, USA
Jonathan G. Koppell is the dean of the College of Public Service and Community Solutions at Arizona State University. Dr. Koppell has a dynamic approach to higher education that fuses research, teaching and service to the community through creation of solutions to our most vexing shared challenges. By preparing undergraduate, professional and doctoral students for lives of community engagement and public service while promoting use-inspired research by faculty and research centers, he is seeking to demonstrate that universities can be key actors making our communities more prosperous, healthy and resilient. This common focus on "public goods" unifies the specializations of college's four distinct schools (criminal justice, community development, public administration and policy, and social work) and twenty research centers and it makes Arizona State University a partner in the revitalization of Phoenix and the surrounding cities. Dr. Koppell's research and writing broadly examines the design and administration of complex organizations in the public, private and nonprofit sectors. He is a leading authority on transnational regulation and quasi-government. Joining Arizona State University in 2010, Dr. Koppell was previously professor at the Yale School of Management where he also directed the Millstein Center for Corporate Governance and Performance. In addition to scholarly publications, Dr. Koppell has written numerous opinion pieces for the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post and other leading publications. He holds a B.A. from Harvard and doctorate in political science from University of California, Berkeley. In 2012, he was inducted as a Fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration (NAPA). Dr. Koppell is a Fellow of Salzburg Global Seminar.
