Jenny Kirton

Ph.D. candidate, University of Sheffield, United Kingdom
Jenny Kirton is a PhD candidate based in the School of English at the University of Sheffield. Her project, which is funded by the White Rose College of Arts and Humanities, explores literary representations of historical 'holes,' or silences; her research traces buried narratives of African American history which shape a "storied" version of American history. Jenny places particular emphasis on the work of playwright Suzan-Lori Parks, though her research incorporates texts by a number of African American women writers. Jenny recently completed a three-month placement at the Harry Ransom Centre in Austin, Tx, where she worked as a postgraduate assistant curator, producing research guides for some of the centre's Theatre and Performing Arts collections. Alongside her PhD work, Jenny is currently working on 'Women in Lockdown,' a project supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, and led by community archive group, Sheffield Feminist Archive.
