Jan Hornat is head of the department of North American studies at Charles University in Prague and a researcher at the Institute of International Relations in Prague. His professional and research focus is transatlantic relations and democratization. He has published research articles in numerous academic journals and most recently a monograph titled Transatlantic Democracy Assistance: Promoting Different Models of Democracy (Routledge: 2019). Jan often comments on international affairs on Czech national television and radio and write commentaries for Czech newspapers. He is also a frequent consultant of various diplomatic missions in Prague and the Czech Ministry of foreign affairs. He is currently a member of the Academic Senate of the Faculty of Social Sciences at Charles University. Before joining the academia in 2015, he served as head of unit at the Department of European Programs at the Ministry of Justice of the Czech Republic. Jan holds a Ph.D in area studies from Charles University in Prague.
