Ivan Odiit Onapito is the pastoral and social care coordinator of the Makerere Palliative Care Unit, within the Department of Medicine at Mulago Hospital in Kampala. He joined the Unit in 2011 as the volunteer coordinator, when he was responsible for setting up a team of volunteers to provide practical, social and spiritual support to patients with palliative care needs. Ivan is interested in studying how spiritual care can be developed to meet the unique needs of patients in an African setting, as well as the interface between palliative care and theology. For his master's studies, he did research on how narratives can be used for providing spiritual care to patients faced with life limiting illnesses. He is also a lecturer of practical theology at Africa Renewal University in Uganda. Ivan received an M.A. in practical theology from the Africa International University in Nairobi, Kenya, and a B.A. from Makerere University in Kampala.
