Georg Winckler was rector of the University of Vienna from 1999 - 2011. Since April 2008 he has been a member of ERAB (European Research Area Board) and, since February 2009, a member of the PEOPLE Advisory Group at the European Commission. From 2000 to 2005 he was president of the Austrian Rectors' Conference. Georg Winckler was vice president of the EUA (European University Association) in Brussels from 2001-2005 and president of the EUA from 2005-2009. He studied economics at Princeton University and holds a doctorate from the University of Vienna.
