Frankie Hutton

Frankie Hutton is a visiting associate professor and adjunct professor of American history at Montclair State University in New Jersey. She previously served as a visiting lecturer in the Department of History at Howard University in Washington, D.C. and as an associate professor in the Department of Mass Media at Hampton University in Virginia. Dr. Hutton primarily teaches large enrollment courses on American history and African-American history. Her research interests include the history of mass media in the United States with a particular focus on African-American journalism. She is a member of the Organization of American Historians and a past board member of the American Journalism Historians Association. Dr. Hutton received a B.Sc. in business administration from North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, an M.A. in journalism from the University of South Carolina in Columbia, and a Ph.D. in American history from Rutgers State University of New Jersey in New Brunswick. She is an alumna of Salzburg Seminar Session 372 on Race an Ethnicity: Social Change through Public Awareness in 1999.
