Dina Mousa was born and raised in Cairo, Egypt, now a naturalized American citizen settled in San Diego, California. Before coming to the US, she lived and traveled in Asia, where she indulged her love of food and culture. She holds a degree in screenwriting and cinema production, and she enjoys studying and discussing the art of story. She is a peace lover, and she believes in the power of art. Having grown up poor in a war-torn region, her work mainly focuses on young girls and women in marginalized communities, race, identity conflict, poverty, victims of war and the mistreatment of animals. Dina is expected to travel to France in 2021 as an Artist-in-Residence at Chateau d'Orquevaux. Two of her early chapter books for young readers were long-listed in the Golden Baobab contest for African authors in 2014 for The Sunbird and Fatuma and in 2016 Maya and the Mystery of the Cats Burglars. Dina is a Fellow of Salzburg Global Seminar (Young Culture Innovator), where she stayed for one week in the fall of 2019.
