Bernardo Palmeirim is currently a lecturer in English at the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lisbon, where he also teaches Creative Writing in English and US History and Culture (20th-21st centuries). He is a researcher in American Studies at ULICES (University of Lisbon Center for English Studies). He holds a PhD and an MA in Theory of Literature (ULisbon), respectively titled "What is Poetic Attention" (2014) and "Two Ways of Transcendence - An Essay on Poetry and Prayer" (2004). He has translated copiously from Portuguese to English. His research interests include American short forms (poetry, short stories, songs), US cultural history, theory of literature and religion studies. He is also a songwriter with 2 bands and extensive music collaborations, including within academia. He has recently directed an art practice-based research project ("Walt'z Intrepid Sailors", spoken-word with alumni for the Walt Whitman bi-centennial); having won the 2021 Cátedr a Cascais Interarts grant, he is currently working on a follow-up.
