Beatriz Brown

Beatriz is interested in how states and businesses relate to liberty, labour and planet. Beatriz trained as a barrister before joining the UK Civil Service in 2021 where she is now a Policy Lead in the Rights Policy Division focusing on international engagement. Previously Beatriz worked in diverse sectors abroad, from business strategy to overseas development, before returning to London where she directed a grassroots corporate social responsibility project. She was a Thouron Fellow and Salzburg Cutler Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania Law School, and she represented the Honourable Society of Lincoln's Inn as Johan Steyn Scholar at the International Criminal Court. Outside work, Beatriz was awarded a Churchill Fellowship in 2019 to research art's role in prison divestment. Beatriz has won awards for her pro bono commitment and leadership in both the USA and UK and currently advises three arts organisations on strategy and governance. She volunteers as an Independent Custody Visitor for the London Mayor's Office on Policing And Crime (MOPAC), promoting police accountability and detainee welfare.
