Barbara Distel was the director of the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site from 1975 to 2008. Since 1985 she has been the publisher of the yearbook “Dachauer Hefte” and co-publisher of the 9-volume history of Nazi concentration camps, Der Ort des Terrors. She is a member of the International Forum Mauthausen and on the advisory boards of the Topography of Terror Foundation, Berlin; House of the Wannsee Conference Memorial and Educational Site, Berlin; and Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum. She served on the Faculty of the Seminar’s Fellowship meeting on Preventing Genocide and Mass Violence: What can be learned from history?, 2009.
