Anver M. Emon joined the University of Toronto's Faculty of Law in 2005. His research focuses on premodern and modern Islamic legal history and theory; premodern modes of governance and adjudication; and the role of Shari'a both inside and outside the Muslim world. His general academic interests include medieval intellectual and religious history; law and religion; legal history; and legal philosophy. Professor Emon teaches Tort Law and offers specialized seminars on Islamic legal history, gender and Islamic law, and law and religion. Additionally, he supervises graduate students in advanced research in Islamic law and history. Professor Emon is the author of Islamic Natural Law Theories (Oxford: Oxford University Press, 2010), and is the founding editor of Middle East Law and Governance: An Interdisciplinary Journal (published by Brill).
