Anna Smolentseva is a senior research fellow at the Institute for Educational Studies at the National Research University - Higher School of Economics in Moscow. She is a sociologist of education focusing on issues of globalization and internationalization in higher education, transformation of academic profession, research universities, educational inequality, and graduate education. Ms. Smolentseva is the author of more than thirty publications in international and Russian scholarly journals and books. She contributed an article titled "Educational Inequality in Russia" to International Studies in Educational Inequality, Theory and Policy. She has been a National Academy of Education/Spencer postdoctoral fellow and a recipient of a Fulbright New Century Scholar grant. She holds a Ph.D. in sociology from Moscow State University.
