Andrés Thompson works as an independent consultant in Colonia, Uruguay. He is heavily involved with the community foundation Fondo Región Colonia and co-leads a project on women and philanthropy at the Center for the Study of State and Society in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He has worked toward global social change and development for the past 35 years. He was a program director for Latin American and Caribbean programming at the W.K. Kellogg Foundation of Battle Creek, Michigan from 1994 to 2010. From 2011 to 2013, he was the head of the Brazil office of streetfootballworld, a nonprofit organization that uses football as a tool for development. Until July 2017, he worked as the executive coordinator of the Philanthropy Network for Social Justice in Brazil. Andrés is a member of the board of directors of the International Society for Third Sector Research and the International Committee of the Council of Foundations. He is also a founder and director of the magazine Tercer Sector and is on the editorial board for the journal Voluntas. He is a senior fellow at the Synergos Institute in New York and at the Center for the Study of Philanthropy and Civil Society at the Graduate School, City University of New York. He studied psychology at the University of Rosario in Argentina and earned a master's degree in development studies from the Institute of Social Studies at The Hague. Andrés has served as a resource specialist for several Salzburg Seminar Sessions.
