Alan Dix is a theatre maker, arts consultant and the Artistic Director of 509 Arts. As a consultant he has worked regionally and nationally developing cultural policy, strategy and evaluation. HIs artistic practice includes My Last Car, a show about car love and climate change for the 2012 Cultural Olympiad and Bike Story for the Tour de France Grand Depart. In 2017 he directed the large-scale community opera Calderland in Halifax, which won a Royal Philharmonic Society award. In 2016, he directed the Batley Variations - a community chorale - with 100 local residents, which celebrated the local community and the work of Jo Cox, the town's murdered MP. Current projects include Decade, a 10-year biographical exploration of his personal journey from 70 to 80 (with Theatre in the Mill, Bradford University), Broken Biscuits, a short film about the mythology of death, and Meal One, an immersive music theatre piece for people with and without learning disabilities. Alan is Chair o f Hull Truck Theatre, a Board member of Leeds Playhouse and Chair of the arts and climate change charity Time and Tide Bell. Alan was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by Bradford University in 2021.
