Teacher and Event Planner, Tosa Juku, Japan
Ai Grant is a teacher and event planner at Tosa Juku in Kochi, Japan. She specializes in early childhood education, English, and education of science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM). She is a subarachnoid hemorrhage survivor and has been appearing on media and giving lectures around Japan to bring the voices of patients to the public. Ai suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage on 6 September 2021. She underwent two coil embolization surgeries and was discharged from the hospital one month later without sever physical damage. After leaving the hospital, she realized she had some residual effects, including hearing loss in her left ear. Since there is nowhere in Japan to go for holistic care, it was necessary for her to visit several specialists during this confusing time with little support. Because of her experience, she is driven to improve rehabilitation, social integration, and community support in Japan. She wants to create a comprehensive system connecting stroke patients, medical professionals, and others.
