Austrian Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen delivers video message in celebration of Salzburg Global's 75th anniversary
The President of Austria, Dr. Alexander Van der Bellen, delivered a video message in celebration of Salzburg Global Seminar's 75th anniversary on June 17 at the event New Forces of Leadership: Celebrating 75 Years of Salzburg Global Seminar. The following is a transcript of his address.
For 75 years, Salzburg Global Seminar has provided Austria with a vital connection with the world. From the start, it sought to bridge divides and address issues of both national and global concern. Situated in the heart of Europe, Austria was aptly placed to serve this mission after the Second World War. People from both sides of the Iron Curtain could meet in conditions of trust and openness. And today, participants from as far afield as Tokyo, Cape Town, or Los Angeles travel to Schloss Leopoldskron.
This unique historic monument has proven integral to Salzburg Global Seminar's longevity and success. I am glad organizers and donors are persuaded that the Seminar should remain in Salzburg, specifically at Schloss Leopoldskron. This place continues to inspire the participants of the Seminar's programs to put aside their differences and find solutions to shared problems.
The ranks of Salzburg Global Fellows include many prominent Austrians, several past politicians, as well as distinguished scholars, poets, writers, and artists. These Fellows, in turn, have their international connections expanded and strengthened thanks to their engagement with this Seminar.
As it celebrates its 75th anniversary, I congratulate Salzburg Global Seminar for its unwavering commitment to its mission to challenge current and future leaders to shape a better world. I support and applaud your work and wish you and Schloss Leopoldskron many more decades of success."
