Masato Seko and Stephen L. Salyer sign new partnership at 75th anniversary weekend

Salzburg Global Seminar and The Nippon Foundation prolong 35 years of partnership with a new agreement

The 75th anniversary celebrations of Salzburg Global Seminar were heightened by the signing of a partnership agreement with The Nippon Foundation, continuing a partnership that has been instrumental to program development and global representation at Salzburg Global over the past 35 years.

In 2020, The Nippon Foundation and Salzburg Global co-launched two programs: the Asia Peace Innovators Forum, and the Japan-India Transformative Technology Network. Despite the challenges the pandemic posed to these new programs, they garnered strong interest and managed to build meaningful connections and collaborations across the globe. Offering unique professional development opportunities for Asian mid-career professionals, the programs have also seen the development of cross-disciplinary collaborative team projects, 10 of which have been selected to receive additional promotional support through the programs.

Instrumental in the continued growth of this partnership, outgoing president of Salzburg Global Seminar, Stephen L. Salyer, was delighted to sign an agreement with Masato Seko and Remi Masuda, senior director and program officer in the Global Issues Division of The Nippon Foundation, continuing the Foundation’s support to these two programs for a further year.

Masato Seko first came to Salzburg Global Seminar as a Fellow in 2001 and credits the time he spent here with where he is in his career.  “Salzburg Global is an important place to me. Being here was a starting point for my professional career, and it will always be an important place in my life.”

The Asia Peace Innovators Forum and the Japan-India Transformative Technology Network are centered on promoting peace in communities across Asia, and utilizing technological innovations for social good, respectively. Moving forward, the programs’ current Fellows will finally have the chance to convene in-person in workshops scheduled in August and September in Salzburg. The programs’ networks will also be able to expand, with the recruitment of new cohorts of Fellows encouraging further innovation and collaboration.
